Alex Bregman, the two-time World Series champion, has arrived at the Boston Red Sox with a purpose that transcends his own accomplishments. In his first spring training away from the Houston Astros, Bregman is leveraging his vast experience to guide a young Boston roster eager to return to the top of MLB.
Bregman’s presence in training camp has not only raised expectations on the field but also sparked a cultural transformation within the team. From day one, he has been dedicated to sharing his knowledge and passion for the game with the Red Sox’s most promising prospects.
Bregman’s influence was evident from the start, as manager Alex Cora found him surrounded by the team’s top prospects: Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell, and Marcelo Mayer.
“They love baseball,” Cora said, according to SI.com. “They love being at the field. They love talking baseball. They just love the game. They’re so focused and locked in on what they’re trying to do on a daily basis—it’s really fun to watch.”
Cora also highlighted Bregman’s leadership qualities, recalling their time together in Houston. In a powerful 5-word verdict, Cora said, “This is who he is.” He elaborated, “A lot of people are like, ‘Wow, this guy!’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s who he is.’ I saw him in [20]17, and [he] was amazing. Obviously, we went through our stuff, right? And the thing that actually got my attention is he became the leader.”
Cora continued, “Like, ‘We have to turn a page. We’re still the Houston Astros, and we’re good, regardless of the mistake we made in ’17.’ They proved it right, and he was the leader of it. There was no BS. Let’s focus on the right things. And that’s what he’s doing here. We’re focusing on the right things.”
Bregman: A leader who transcends the field
Bregman’s influence extends far beyond his on-field skills. His commitment to mentoring young players is evident in his willingness to share his time and knowledge, even accompanying them on long trips to strengthen team bonds. His focus on communication and establishing preparation routines has been instrumental in fostering an environment of learning and growth.
Bregman’s challenge with the Red Sox
Despite initial challenges, such as Rafael Devers’ statement about his position at third base, Bregman has remained positive and adaptable. His willingness to play any position demonstrates his commitment to the team and his desire to win. His emphasis on hard work, consistency, and communication has been key to his seamless integration into the Red Sox organization
