Shedeur Sanders was one of the headline names in the latest NFL Draft, ultimately being selected by the Cleveland Browns. While it remains unclear whether he’ll get a real shot to start, Kevin Stefanski’s squad has added a new key weapon to the offense — a piece that could significantly benefit the former Colorado Buffaloes star.
After a turbulent 2024 that saw him suit up for multiple teams, Diontae Johnson has officially joined the Browns, bringing his veteran experience to an offense full of new faces.
The news was first reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter, who announced the agreement between the former Panthers wide receiver and Cleveland via his official account on X (formerly Twitter).
“Browns reached agreement on a one-year deal with free-agent WR Diontae Johnson, as @MikeGarafolo also reported,” Schefter reported via @AdamSchefter.
A wild 2024 for Johnson
Coming out of Toledo Rockets, a young Diontae Johnson entered the NFL as a third-round pick in the 2019 Draft, selected 66th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Johnson remained with Mike Tomlin’s team through the 2023 season, before being traded to the Carolina Panthers. From there, the WR’s career took an unexpected turn, as his stints with teams began to shorten.
Throughout the 2024 season, Johnson wore multiple jerseys — starting with the Panthers, a brief stint with the Baltimore Ravens, and two separate spells with the Houston Texans. Now the question is: could Cleveland finally be the place where he unlocks his full potential?
The arrival of Shedeur Sanders to the Browns
After several days of uncertainty surrounding Sanders’ future in the NFL, the long-awaited call finally came, and the young QB’s destination is set: the Cleveland Browns, under head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Although the coaching staff has yet to reveal who will be the starting QB heading into Week 1, many still believe Sanders’ talent could give him a real shot at leading the Browns’ offense next season.
