Matthew Stafford’s tenure with the Detroit Lions is over after both parties mutually agreed to part ways and now the player is seeking a trade. The veteran quarterback never was able to win in Detroit and now he’ll try to have better luck with a different NFL franchise.

The 32-year-old has already drawn interest around the league and some specific teams appear to be more appealing for the player than others. One of those could be the Denver Broncos, which have struggled to find a reliable quarterback in recent years.

The 2014 Pro-Bowler is ready to start a new chapter in his career and the Broncos are sounding like a very good option for this man to continue his NFL career. This could be a win-win situation and more reports are suggesting the interest is mutual.

George Mason could send Drew Lock to Detroit in exchange for Matthew Stafford

NBC Sports’ Peter King has agreed that the Broncos have a very good chance to land Stafford this offseason but he knows that won’t be easy. During a recent ranking, King placed Denver second on Stafford’s sweepstakes, between the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots.

2. Broncos. Doubt new GM George Paton, who has watched Stafford closely for 12 years while in Minnesota, would be sold on Drew Lock. Competition needed. Compensation: Two second-round picks (including 39th overall this year). Or Lock plus this year’s second-rounder.

Things might be closer to a finish than most people think, as according to 9News insider Mike Klis, the team has already engaged in talks for the quarterback with the Lions.

“I know they’re talking about it today and tomorrow. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make an offer. The Lions want to field offers this week. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vic Fangio is saying, ‘Geez, I don’t know if we want to wait for Lock,’” Klis said of the situation with the Broncos.

Stafford is ready to move on and given the current landscape of the NFL, he will have plenty of options to pick this offseason. Yet, some are more appealing to him than others. It’ll come down to what serves best him and the Lions.
