Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are still not out of the race to pick Shedeur Sanders, according to a report from Tom Pelissero. If the Browns and the Saints let the quarterback drop during the second round, the Colorado prospect could end up playing for the black and gold team.
“I believe Shedeur Sanders gets drafted today. You got the Browns with a couple of picks high in the second round. You got the Saints who have a high second-round pick. The Steelers don’t have a second-round pick. They do have a third. In my mind, that might potentially be the floor for Shedeur Sanders. His opportunity is coming.”
Of course, that would be a shocking scenario and a historic fall on the draft board for Shedeur. However, the factor that remains a mystery is whether Aaron Rodgers would make his arrival in Pittsburgh conditional if they pick a quarterback who puts pressure on him from the bench. For a former Super Bowl champion, it wouldn’t seem like the ideal situation.
Who will draft Shedeur Sanders?
The Browns, Saints, and Steelers are the favorite teams to draft Shedeur Sanders on Day 2. It’s important to note that the Giants are officially out of the race after selecting Jaxson Dart in the first round.
The reality is that, outside of those three teams, there aren’t many possible landing spots left for Shedeur. That’s why Pelissero’s report points out that this shouldn’t come as a surprise, since many franchises didn’t view Sanders as a first-round prospect.
“You can say he’s sliding, but, is it actually a slide? What I would say is this is probably right around where, if you were being realistic about it and taking his last name out of it, was always where he was going to go. He was somewhere in a late first, second round quarterback.”
