The NY Jets must make a very important decision that could impact the Kansas City Chiefs and other NFL teams. According to a report by Jonathan Jones, Breece Hall will not be franchise tagged.

“Kenneth Walker is the most likely tag candidate. The only other remotely plausible option is Breece Hall, but that seems extremely unlikely as well. Sources expect a buyer’s market at the position, with players like Rachaad White, Javonte Williams and Rico Dowdle also set to hit free agency. But, that doesn’t mean running backs won’t be tagged.”

If the Jets take the risk of not tagging Hall, several Super Bowl contenders could offer him a big contract extension. In the case of the Chiefs, that would be a massive boost for Patrick Mahomes and his offense.

Will NY Jets tag Breece Hall?

The NY Jets will not franchise tag Breece Hall, based on what Jones mentioned. However, the same insider notes that using a transition tag with the star running back cannot be ruled out.

“The franchise tag allows a player to sign with another team if that club is willing to surrender two first-round picks. That is not the case with the transition tag, which simply gives the issuing team right of first refusal. The Jets have enough cap space to use it on Hall and save roughly $2 million if they choose.”

That transition tag will allow the Jets to have the possibility of at least matching the offer from Hall’s top suitor. However, everything points to the player wanting to enter free agency and sign with a contender.
