Liga MX Clausura 2024 playoffs: Bracket, schedule, teams, and format

The Clausura 2024 tournament is drawing to a close, with ten teams vying for glory in Liga MX. Here’s everything you need to know about the bracket, schedule, format, and the clubs competing in this semester’s playoffs.

A new champion could emerge this semester in Liga MX. While Club America aims to defend the title earned last year, Cruz Azul, the other finalist, will try to take revenge on the Aguilas for what happened in 2013.

For this tournament, the Liga MX changed the format for the play-in. Four teams competed against each other for a spot in the playoffs, where the other six teams awaited patiently.

Liga MX Clausura 2024: Play-in format

The final stage of the Clausura 2024 tournament started with the play-in round. Four teams, ranked 7th to 10th, competed for a spot in the next stage, with three of them having a second chance.

Necaxa (9th) and Queretaro (10th) faced off in a single-game matchup. Necaxa secured the victory in the penalty shootout, resulting in Queretaro’s elimination from the tournament.

Meanwhile, Pachuca (7th) and Pumas UNAM (8th) also played a single-game match. In a very exciting duel, Pumas was able to win in penalty shootout, but Pachuca stayed alive.

Pumas played against Cruz Azul (2nd place) in the quarterfinals. The winner of the game between Pachuca and Necaxa was set to face Club America (1st place) in the playoffs, and it was Pachuca the one that secured the victory.

Liga MX Clausura 2024: Bracket

With the end of the play-in round and the quarterfinals, now there are only four teams remaining. Chivas, America, Cruz Azul and Monterrey will fight for one of the two spots for the grand final.

With the winners of the play-in round set, the Liga MX had some very attractive games in the quarterfinals. As mentioned earlier. Chivas, Cruz Azul, Monterrey and Club America were the ones who got their ticket for the semifinals.

With the semifinals done, Club America and Cruz Azul were the ones who advanced to the grand final. Now, they will compete for this semester’s title in what is set to be an exciting matchup.

Even though Cruz Azul and Monterrey tied on aggregate, Cruz Azul advanced thanks to being the higher seed. The first leg will be played at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, while the second leg will be hosted by America’s Azteca Stadium.
