World’s eyes will be once again in Tokyo, thanks to the 16th edition of the Summer Paralympic Games. In this major sporting event, athletes with a range of disabilities from all around the world will try to compete for gold medals and write their names in history.

This year, 4,537 athletes representing 163 nations will be participating. Also, in this edition of the Paralympics, there will be 540 events in 22 sports, including the new additions Badminton and Taaekwondo. Also, there’s the most known as track and field, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis, among many more.

This will be the second Summer Paralympics to be held in Tokyo since the 1964 Games. The Paralympics were originally scheduled to take place between 25 August and 6 September 2020, but they had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Start of the 2021 Summer Paralympic Games

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will begin on Tuesday, August 24, with the Opening Ceremony, and they will finish on September 5, 2021 with the Closing Ceremony. In the United States, the Opening Ceremony can be watched at 7 AM (ET) on Tuesday.

That same night, in the United States, will begin the first competitions. Cycling (Track), Swimming and Wheelchair fencing will be competing for medals. Also, goalball, table tennis, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby start their tournaments.

On the other hand, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games conclude on September 5, 2021. In the Closing Ceremony, the torch will pass to the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games and the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games.
