The excitement Cameron Brink felt after being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks was immense. However, that dream quickly came crashing down after she suffered a devastating knee injury that forced her to miss nearly her entire rookie season. Now back on the court, the rising star opened up about her emotions after finally seeing game action again.
The return came just days ago against the Las Vegas Aces, where Brink had a solid performance, at least statistically. However, as she emphasized, the main priority for the small forward was to finish the game in full physical condition, focusing on her health above all else.
In a recent appearance on her own Straight To Cam podcast, the former Stanford standout shared her emotions about returning to the game after a long recovery, admitting that overcoming the initial nerves was her first big hurdle.
“It was definitely a little nerve-wracking just like still figuring out the pace of game day,” she said, per the podcast’s page on YouTube. “Getting used to like when taping is, when I’m on the court, even doing activation on the baseline, before you do your player development or just get shots up before the game. There’s just reporters, people with cameras in your face everywhere, so it’s just like I didn’t miss that aspect of it very much.”
She also added: “I just have a completely different mindset this year than last year. It’s weird I feel like I was nervous for so many other games last year and then this game I feel like I had a lot of confidence just being like, ‘Okay, I’m just getting my feet wet.’”
What injury did Cameron Brink suffer?
Cameron Brink’s promising rookie season was cut short on June 19, 2024, when she suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in her left knee during a game against the Connecticut Sun. The injury forced the talented forward to miss the rest of the season and undergo a lengthy recovery process.
After 13 months of rehabilitation, Brink was medically cleared to return to the court and made her comeback on July 29, 2025, in a game against the Las Vegas Aces.
