Mike Soroka is heading to the injured list due to shoulder discomfort, a disappointing development for Chicago Cubs fans eager to see him in action on the mound. Soroka, however, recently revealed a detail about his shoulder that might raise some questions.
“Mike Soroka said he had an MRI before the trade. Was feeling fine. Then tonight: ‘Went to go put a little extra on a fastball and it grabbed me a little bit. And it didn’t go away.'” ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reported on X.
Soroka only lasted two innings on the mound for the Cubs in their 3-2 loss. While the defeat wasn’t his fault, he did allow one home run during his short time pitching, making his injury-shortened debut a disappointing sight for fans.
How Old Is Soroka’s Shoulder Injury?
It’s currently unknown if Mike Soroka had his current shoulder issue with the Nationals before arriving in Chicago. However, he has a history of shoulder problems. On July 19, 2024, he was reported to have a shoulder injury while playing for the White Sox. His most recent injury before this one was a biceps injury that landed him on the Nationals’ injured list in April.
Soroka is a six-year veteran whose experience could be a significant asset to a Cubs team aiming to be more dominant and secure their second-place spot in the NL Central—and potentially even challenge the Brewers for the division lead.
In his most recent MLB season with the Nationals, Soroka made 16 starts, posting a 4.87 ERA over 81.1 innings. He finished with three wins and eight losses, allowing 68 hits, 44 runs, 11 home runs, and recording 87 strikeouts.
