The New York Knicks had a memorable NBA season, reaching the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. However, they fell short against the Indiana Pacers, losing the series 4-2. Despite their strong playoff performance, the organization made the surprising decision to part ways with Tom Thibodeau.
The decision raised eyebrows as New York had a remarkable postseason run, defeating the defending champion Boston Celtics in six games before coming within two victories of the NBA Finals. Eight days after his firing, Thibodeau addressed Knicks fans with a heartfelt message.
āTo the best city in the world with the best fans in the world: Thank you. When I was hired in 2020, I said this was my dream job. I am grateful that dream became a reality,ā Thibodeau began.
He went on to thank the players, coaching staff, and the entire organization. āThank you to our players and coaching staff who gave everything they had, and to everyone who makes this franchise special,ā he continued. āI am proud of everything we accomplished together, including four playoff appearances and this yearās run to the Eastern Conference Finals ā our first in 25 yearsā.
Thibodeau closed by addressing the fans, expressing his deep appreciation. āAnd to the fans, thank you for believing in me and embracing me from day one. Watching you support our team, and seeing the Garden ignite with that incomparable Knicks energy, is something I will never forget. With gratitude and respect, Tom Thibodeau,ā he concluded.
