Travis Hunter is widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, the Cleveland Browns believe he’s already an elite player, even comparing him to one of the greatest athletes in sports history.
In just a few days, Travis Hunter will make his long-awaited transition from college to the NFL. He’s considered a premier prospect thanks to his rare versatility—playing both cornerback and wide receiver at a high level.
Hunter has repeatedly stated that he wants to continue playing both positions as a pro. While there are some doubts about whether he can do so at the NFL level, several teams—including the Browns—believe he can.
Browns compare Travis Hunter to a world-renowned athlete
Very few football players have successfully played two positions in the NFL. Travis Hunter aims to change that, after a standout college career with the Colorado Buffaloes where he starred on both sides of the ball.

At Colorado, he was coached by Deion Sanders—an NFL Hall of Famer who also played both cornerback and wide receiver. Sanders believes Hunter can do the same at the next level, though not every team is ready to embrace that vision.
Hunter recently said he’s played both positions his entire life and would consider retirement if he’s not allowed to continue doing so in the NFL. As a result, several top-picking teams in the 2025 Draft have indicated a willingness to meet his demands.
The Browns are one of those teams. Holding the No. 2 overall pick, Cleveland believes Hunter could be a generational talent. General Manager Andrew Berry reportedly supports allowing Hunter to play both positions—comparing his two-way potential to MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani.

“I don’t see it that way. I think it’s — and I’m going to use a [cross-sport analogy] now — it’s a little bit like Ohtani, right?” Berry said. “Where he’s playing one side, he’s an outstanding player. If he’s a pitcher or he’s a hitter, he’s an outstanding player. You obviously get a unicorn if you use him both ways.”
Could the Browns select Travis Hunter?
As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, uncertainty remains around the top selections. The Titans currently hold the No. 1 overall pick, and their decision will likely shape the rest of the board.

Right now, it seems Tennessee will take a quarterback at No. 1. If that happens, the Browns would have the opportunity to select either Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter—though they may also consider drafting a signal-caller, depending on who remains available after the Titans’ pick.
