As per Lawrence, it’s expected that he plays a few snaps against the Saints. With that in mind, he would love to have Hunter on the team, at least for one of the offensive drives.

<h2>The Jaguars lost their first preseason game</h2>



The team’s first preseason game ended 25-31 in favor of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/pittsburgh-steelers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Steelers</a>. However, the offense was decent enough. They had 339 yards and averaged 5.6 yards per play. 



The defense does need more work. Allowing 31 points to the Steelers’ backups is not great. This still counts even if it’s the Jaguars’ backup defense on the field. Skylar Thompson and Mason Rudolph combined for 29/38 passes, 317 yards and four touchdowns. That is completely unacceptable.

“All offseason and all training camp, you can’t get hit. Sometimes there’s a different time clock in the pocket. You try to always play it real in practice, but sometimes you hang on to the ball and take a little bit more chances in the pocket because there are no consequences,” Lawrence said.

“I know he [didn’t] get much [action at cornerback] because the D-line was getting a good rush, so it was a little hard to see. I thought when he had the ball in his hands and he operated, he operated at a high level.”

Etienne started 15 games last year, while Bigsby only racked 1 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a> start. However, Bigsby got more rushing attempts (168) than Etienne (150). This also translated into many more yards (766 for Bigsby, 558 for Etienne) and 7 touchdowns, while Etienne only got two trips to the endzone.

It seems like that momentum has kept going at the start of training camp. Bigsby is more physical, while Etienne is a shiftier back. Bigsby won’t hesitate to run through the trenches as he averaged 2.8 yards after contact per attempt.

His rookie season was not great, as he led the NFL in interceptions with 17 to only 12 touchdowns. However, it needs to be mentioned that the 2021 season was a messy situation. Urban Meyer didn’t know how to coach the team.

<h2>The Jaguars have exciting weapons for 2025</h2>



Brian Thomas Jr. was stellar as a rookie and enters his second year as a bonafide star. Of course, Jacksonville wants to see Travis Hunter replicate some of that this year. The team also signed Dyami Brown, an underrated receiver with plenty of potential. 



Even better, they are cheap. Hunter and Thomas are under rookie contracts and Brown is earning a mere $10 million. This means the Jaguars have two-to-three years of cheap contracts for incredibly talented players. They must take advantage of it as they prepare to challenge the AFC landscape.

Wolfe also reports that the team sees Hunter as a “more natural corner,” which is puzzling. However, they will increase Hunter’s reps as a receiver. The team is clear that Hunter will play both positions. Now, it remains to be seen how the snaps are managed for the rookie phenom.



<h2>Hunter has plenty of upside as cornerback and receiver</h2>



Hunter is unique. He was graded as one of the best receivers and one of the best cornerbacks in college. He didn’t rest much as his snap count was also massive. Replicating that in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NFL</a> is not easy at all.

However, the team has been really impressed by Hunter’s work ethic and skills. While his snap counts are still in question, it all points to big percentages. However, it seems like the team is leaning to favor offense over defense at this time.

<h2>It all can change quickly</h2>



If defense is not doing great, the Jaguars might easily put Hunter as a starting corner while relegating his offense a bit. In the end, they have Brian Thomas Jr. and Dyami Brown on the depth chart, plus a good committee in the running game. So if the defense needs it, Hunter’s output might be more corner-oriented.



Inversely, if the Jaguars need separation and hands at a short, intermediate level to help <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/trevor-lawrence" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Trevor Lawrence</a>, lining Hunter in the slot might be their best option. If <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/travis-hunter">Hunter</a> makes a mistake, he just gets back up and tries again: “No one does that,” Lawrence said. “It’s not shade on anybody else, but it’s like no one trying to (run) 50-yard full speed again when they just did it.”

“I said that. So (Hunter’s) first day over at DB, I was like, ‘we’re throwing every ball at you,&apos;” the QB stated. “That first day, I was like, ‘I’m throwing every ball at you … so you come back to offense.”



“He’s a super hard worker … you can tell he doesn’t have a lot of issues going on and stuff where it’s like he’s distracted. He just seems very focused.”


 


<h2>What position will Hunter play?</h2>



Since his arrival to the league, much has been speculated about which position <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/liam-coen">Liam Coen</a> would use to get the most out of Hunter starting in Week 1. While there’s been no official confirmation from the head coach, it’s believed that Hunter will be used on both sides of the field — with a greater emphasis on the offensive side of the ball.
