At the start of training camp, the Dallas Cowboys are facing a contract dispute that directly affects the team’s competitive environment. A key offensive teammate of Dak Prescott is in a tense situation with the front office led by Jerry Jones.
Prescott remains firmly established as the team’s leader, holding the title of the highest-paid quarterback in the league. His key weapons have begun catching passes during an offseason that’s expected to heat up gradually. In the middle of it all, the Cowboys must address a long-standing issue.
Jones continues to get involved in resolving a tough situation: the contract extension of linebacker Micah Parsons, the team’s defensive leader and a vital piece of the roster, whose uncertain future threatens to destabilize the structure of the squad.
Parsons’ negotiation status
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported on ESPN that talks between the Cowboys and Parsons “have gone backwards, not forwards.” This means the negotiations for an extension are currently stalled, with no signs of progress, putting the future of Prescott’s key teammate at risk.

Micah Parsons #11 of the Dallas Cowboys walks off the field after a preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers at AT&T Stadium on August 24, 2024 in Arlington, Texas.
“Really not talking much these days, if at all… At this point there’s no negotiation, no real conversation on closing a deal. They’re further apart in late July or early August than they were in late March or early April,” Schefter reported regarding the situation between Parsons and Jones’ franchise.

Parsons’ contract situation
Talks to extend Parsons’ contract began a long time ago. Now, he is heading into the 2025 season under the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, which guarantees him $24 million. For now, the situation continues to escalate with no resolution in sight.
