As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for the 2025 NFL season, Jerry Jones made sure quarterback Dak Prescott has one of his weapons secured for years to come. This is key for a team with maximum expectations.
Jones, who is not only the Cowboys owner, but also the general manager of the team, agreed to a deal with tight end Jake Ferguson. It’s a lucrative 4-year deal and $52 million, with $30 million guaranteed.
Ferguson is coming off a hard year for him, as he suffered a concussion and some other injuries limited his output. Having said that, in years prior, he’s made sure to be a safe blanket for Dak Prescott.
Ferguson has the money, now needs to prove he is worth it
Getting a massive extension like this after a down year is not usual in the NFL. However, Jones gave him the money. Ferguson is now in ‘prove it‘ time. In three years in the league, Ferguson has a Pro Bowl selection and 1,429 yards with 7 touchdowns.

Last year, he wasn’t able to score a single time, which Ferguson will look to change this season. Ferguson is 6’5″ with plenty of athleticism to be a certified threat on the end zone. He is also very good racking yards after catch, as he averages a career 5.8 YAC/R.

Ferguson is joined by elite talent
While Ferguson is a known face on the roster, new weapons have arrived to Dallas to strengthen the offense. The Cowboys traded for wide receiver George Pickens, who will play as second option behind CeeDee Lamb. However, Pickens has the potential to be a star in the NFL. He is very talented and will be key for this offense.
Aside from Pickens, the running game will also suffer an overhaul. Last year, it was Rico Dowdle’s show, but now, it seems like the Cowboys will go in a more committee-oriented way. Javonte Williams comes from Denver to bring brute force and aggression, while Miles Sanders will be the one in charge of being elusive and agile. The Cowboys offense has the potential to be a top-tier unit in the NFL.
