The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of a rebuild for the 2025 NFL season, focusing on creating an offensive line that can improve on last year’s performance. One of the key tasks for the front office led by owner Jerry Jones is to avoid what happened last season when quarterback Dak Prescott was sidelined for the season, and the team struggled to find a replacement. In this regard, all eyes are on a player from the New England Patriots.

The upcoming season will see Prescott back on the field, with the Cowboys bringing in a fresh atmosphere under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, following the departure of Mike McCarthy. In Dallas, the goal is to reaffirm that they have a roster capable of contending for the league.

Many months have passed since November 2024, when Prescott suffered a partial tear of the hamstring tendon in his right leg during the game against the Atlanta Falcons. While he will return fully recovered for the new season, Jones doesn’t want his team to experience such a significant setback again.

The Cowboys are interested in quarterback Joe Milton III as a potential backup to Prescott for the upcoming season. The New England Patriots player could be traded easily, according to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler.

“The Patriots are exploring a trade. I’m told several teams are interested. One team to potentially watch for is the Dallas Cowboys because they are looking for a good backup, a young backup with upside they may not get in the draft, maybe they get in a trade,” ESPN’s Fowler reported.

Playing in Dallas would be a significant step forward for Milton’s burgeoning NFL career, as he did not see much action with the Patriots in 2024. The young quarterback was selected by New England in the sixth round of the 2024 Draft, with the 193rd overall pick. He only participated in one game, against the Buffalo Bills, where he completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and threw a touchdown, with no interceptions.
