One of Mike Tomlin's biggest recent gambles has surprisingly retired from the NFL. After his time with the Steelers and a return to the Chargers, the veteran wide receiver has made an unexpected announcement.

Mike Williams has confirmed his retirement from the NFL. According to a report by Ian Rapoport, the wide receiver notified the Los Angeles Chargers of his decision after returning to the team on a one-year contract.

ā€œSources: Veteran WR Mike Williams has informed the Los Angeles Chargers that he plans to retire, walking away after eight seasons, with two eclipsing 1,000 yards.ā€

Last season was very controversial for Williams. After Aaron Rodgers publicly complained about him, the Jets traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he couldn’t become the No. 2 star wide receiver that Mike Tomlin was hoping for to support Russell Wilson.

Mike Williams has confirmed his retirement with the Los Angeles Chargers. A few days ago, the veteran wide receiver was placed on the PUP list, and several reports claimed he was close to being activated for the start of training camp.

However, in a very surprising move, Williams has said goodbye to football. After eight seasons in the NFL, the wide receiver totaled 5,104 yards and 32 touchdowns.
