Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are currently the most controversial team in the NFL. Why? A long wait for Aaron Rodgers that, as time goes on, many fans and experts are having a hard time understanding.
After another failure last season, Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan decided to completely clean out the quarterback room, letting go of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. It was an unusual approach for the franchise, but interestingly, one that was repeated for the second year in a row.
Now, the short-term bet for the Steelers is Rodgers or, if that doesn’t happen, finally seeing what Mason Rudolph’s full potential really is. From their perspective, it’s a win-win situation: if Aaron succeeds, they’ll compete for a championship, and if Rudolph can’t handle the responsibility, they’ll end up with a high pick in 2026.
Can Steelers win the Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers?
The Steelers believe they can win the Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback, according to a report from Albert Breer. Pittsburgh thinks that, thanks to the supporting cast around him, they would only need above-average performances and mistake-free football from the veteran to compete for the title.
“So, I think their thought is, if we can get like 80 or 85% of what Aaron Rodgers was three years ago, we might have a Super Bowl team which, you can argue whether they would or not, but, I think if you’re them and you’re looking at this group of players they’ve had for the last few years, this might be your last shot. Then, it’s worth taking that swing.”
