The Patriots are currently undergoing a massive rebuild. With Bill Belichick and Tom Brady gone, the club has struggled to return to its glory days, but Mike Vrabel is determined to change that.

The new head coach, who won three Super Bowls with the AFC East team, wants to build a more competitive roster this offseason. Now, a top-tier wideout could join their cause and become Drake Maye’s best partner on the field.

Report: Elite wide receiver is visiting Mike Vrabel and the Patriots

The Patriots have endured disappointing seasons in recent years. First, Tom Brady’s departure in 2020 left a huge gap that Bill Belichick couldn’t fill, and the legendary head coach’s exit in 2024 only increased the club’s struggles.

Earlier this year, the Patriots announced Mike Vrabel as their new head coach. However, it seems that the biggest issue to address remains at the quarterback position, as Drake Maye has struggled since entering the league last year.

Upon his arrival in New England, Mike Vrabel confirmed that Drake Maye will be the team’s starting quarterback. However, the head coach knows that Maye needs better weapons around him, which is why he is now targeting an elite wide receiver to bolster the offense.

According to Chad Graff of The Athletic, Stefon Diggs is currently visiting the Patriots in Foxborough. The wide receiver recently became a free agent after the Houston Texans decided not to offer him a contract extension.

Diggs suffered a tough knee injury last year that cut his 2024 season short. Nevertheless, the 31-year-old wideout is looking for a new team for the upcoming campaign, and it seems like the Patriots could be the frontrunners to sign him.

Would Stefon Diggs be the Patriots’ WR1?

If the Patriots sign Stefon Diggs, there’s no doubt he would become the WR1 in Maye’s offense. The club desperately needs an elite player at the position, and the former Texans star could be the perfect fit.

As of now, DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Kendrick Bourne are the team’s top wide receivers. Diggs would immediately take over as the WR1, but the Patriots are also expected to select another wideout in the upcoming NFL Draft.
