His stellar performance, combined with the aggressive mentality instilled by head coach Jim Montgomery, helped the St. Louis Blues dominate the Winnipeg Jets 7-2 in Game 3 of their Western Conference first-round series.

This crucial win cuts the Jets’ series lead to 2-1, reigniting the Blues’ hopes of advancing in the playoffs. The next game of this fiercely contested series is set to take place on Sunday in St. Louis, where the Jets will look to regain their momentum, and the Blues will aim to even the series.

Blues head coach Montgomery praised his team’s aggressive mentality and sustained intensity throughout the full sixty minutes of play. “I just thought that the attitude we had … we started the other two games really well, and what I liked was the fierce, competitive nature in our attitude for 60 minutes,” Montgomery said, as reported by NHL.com.

He added: The start was incredible. We were aggressive, we did the things we wanted to do to make sure that we were going to get more scoring chances, and we did get more scoring chances.”

Dream night for Blues’ offense

In addition to Buchnevich’s dazzling hat trick, defender Cam Fowler contributed a goal and four assists, showcasing his all-around ability. Center Robert Thomas also played a key role in orchestrating the offense, dishing out four crucial assists to keep the pressure on the Jets.

For the Jets, David Gustafsson and Neal Pionk were the only two players to get on the board, but their efforts were overshadowed by the Blues’ relentless offensive attack. Jets star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck had a tough night, surrendering six goals on 25 shots before being replaced by backup Eric Comrie.

Buchnevich reflects on his historic night

It was the night of Pavel Buchnevich, who proved unstoppable in his performance. “I know Radek Faksa, Nathan Walker, and Alexey Toropchenko had a great shift, physical, the crowd got going, really loud and we just followed them,” Buchnevich said.

He added: “Second shift, we got turnover, I shot, missed the net, and you know, Fowler hit the net and I got the rebound, and the crowd got nuts, and the emotions got even more and we keep going.” This performance by Buchnevich and the Blues sent a clear message to the Jets: the series is far from over.
