A former NHL forward has joined the Toronto Maple Leafs in a player development role, using his experience as a two-time Stanley Cup champion to mentor young talent, including helping support stars like Auston Matthews.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, led by Auston Matthews, are welcoming back a familiar face as former NHL forward Kyle Clifford transitions from professional player to a player development role within the organization. Clifford officially announced his retirement on August 8, ending a 13-season career spanning the NHL and AHL.

Known for his grit, physicality, and team-first mentality, Clifford played 753 NHL games with the Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and St. Louis Blues, accumulating 144 points and 905 penalty minutes. He won two Stanley Cups with the Kings in 2012 and 2014, leaving a lasting mark on the league as a tenacious forward.

“With my retirement, I’m excited to stay in Toronto and help develop the next generation of players. It’s an opportunity to give back to an organization that gave me so much,” Clifford said, highlighting his commitment to fostering young talent in his new front office role.
