Brad Marchand made a triumphant entrance in his debut with the Florida Panthers, making it clear that his arrival would not be quiet. The blockbuster trade made by the Panthers at the 2025 NHL trade deadline generated a lot of buzz, but a previous injury prevented the future Hall of Famer from joining the team right away. Finally, on Friday, Marchand took to the ice in a Panthers jersey, and his impact was immediate and decisive.

The game against Utah Hockey Club turned into a high-tension battle that stretched into overtime. With less than a minute remaining, the Panthers needed a clutch play, and Marchand delivered.

Demonstrating his vision and precision, he set up a perfect pass to Sam Bennett, who buried the game-winner 2-1 with a backhand shot. Not only did this goal secure two crucial points for the Panthers, but it also marked Marchand’s first point with his new team and capped a stellar performance by Bennett, who scored both of the Panthers’ goals.

Despite being in the early stages of his adjustment, Marchand looked remarkably comfortable in his debut. He hasn’t played for a month now, and he steps right in and is dominating and controlling the game,” Bennett said of Marchand, according to NHL.com. “That’s tough to do in your first game back, especially on a new team. I think he’s going to fit here real, real nice.”

Marchand quickly integrated into the locker room, taking part in postgame celebrations and embracing the team’s traditions. “[Bennett] did a great job kind of stopping in position for me to get it to him,” Marchand said. “He made a great play. It is great to get the win, be part of that with the guys. It’s nice to get out there and feel like you’re part of it.”
