Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon turned heads with an earth-shattering $4 billion investment in the NBA. The Canes have made plenty of splashes this NHL offseason, but Jack Roslovic has yet to reap any of the benefits.
One of the top unrestricted free agents (UFA) in the NHL market is still available, and the Hurricanes might be looking elsewhere. After signing Jackson Blake to an eight-year, $40.94 million extension, the Canes are seemingly calling it a day.
The same can’t be said about owner Dundon, who has now made a surprising purchase in the NBA. Still, Dundon isn’t investing in fellow North Carolina organziation, the Charlotte Hornets. Instead, the 53-year-old is now buying a franchise in the opposite coast of the nation, concretely in Oregon.
As reported by ESPN‘s insider Shams Charania, Dundon has agreed to purchase the Portland Trail Blazers for a valuation of over $4 billion. The Trail Blazers were previously owned by Paul G. Allen, who has now sold the NBA franchise ahead of Damian Lillard’s return.
Damian Lillard played 11 seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Roslovic drama
According to reports around the NHL, the Hurricanes may have shut the door on re-signing Roslovic. On that note, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks are trending to be the frontrunners to the 28-year-old forward.

“People seem to wonder is Toronto the fit [for Roslovic]? Particularly, with some of the production in goals the Leafs have lost. I could see that happening,” Frank Seravalli said on Insider Notebook. “But we know Toronto’s cap situation is still going to be tight. I think Roslovic deserves to be paid after the year he had. The question is how much? Be curious about another team: the Vancouver Canucks, that would make a lot of sense for Roslovic, as well.”
Value skyrocketted
After scoring 22 goals in the 2024-25 NHL season, Roslovic was due for a considerable payday in the league. Still, weeks have gone by, and the skater and his camp have yet to put pen to paper. It might only be a matter of time, but the delay must be making Roslovic grow a bit anxious, to say the least. A return to Wake County is looking more utopian by the minute.
“For Carolina and Roslovic, the door isn’t completely closed, but they don’t really have a spot for him at the moment. So you can probably cross off the Carolina Hurricanes on the list,” Seravalli stated. “I am told the Roslovic camp does not have a deal in place anywhere, but they’re getting closer,
