NHL Rumors: The controversial situation of Quinn Hughes with the Canucks could resemble a past Matthew Tkachuk saga

An NHL insider anticipates that Quinn Hughes’ situation with the Vancouver Canucks could have an ending similar to Matthew Tkachuk’s departure from the Calgary Flames.

A story is starting to gain traction around Quinn Hughes and his uncertain future with the Vancouver Canucks. With two years remaining on his contract, the 25-year-old captain has shown that his situation is increasingly linked to a saga similar to the one Matthew Tkachuk, the Florida Panthers star, once experienced.

Hughes is getting closer to a potential future reunion with his brothers Luke and Jack on the New Jersey Devils. The Canucks could end up losing their star defenseman, in a situation full of conflicting reports that NHL insider Greg Wyshynski compared to Tkachuk’s exit from the Calgary Flames, where his brother Brady played an influential role.

“It’d be insane to let him walk; you could see the situation becoming like a Matthew Tkachuk, where…you know where it’s all headed…and make a deal before he leaves for nothing; it kind of feels like it’s trending that direction,” Wyshynski said on The Big Show.

The comparison between Hughes and Tkachuk’s situations

The comparison serves as a warning, as the controversy surrounding Hughes suggests that a similar scenario to Matthew Tkachuk’s departure from the Calgary Flames could repeat itself: not signing an extension, increasing tensions, and forcing a trade before losing the player for nothing.

“We’ve gone down this road in the past of just assuming a guy wants to play in the States or with a sibling; we ultimately don’t know what Quinn feeling about the organization or the city is, he might have a different idea than we do,” Wyshynski added.
