The 12th race of the Formula 1 World Championship, the Belgian GP, is going to take place this Sunday, August 29 in the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Max Verstappen claimed the pole in a dramatic Saturday session that ended up with George Russell second and Lewis Hamilton third.
Sunday’s race will bring another chapter of the Hamilton-Verstappen rivalry, with only eight points in the middle of these two drivers. However, the story of the Qualifying session was undoubtedly George Russell, who got the first front row start for Williams since Lance Stroll in Italy in 2017.
That’s not the only story of the session, as Saturday’s action was packed with rain delays, crashes and red flags. Lando Norris suffered the worst accident, crashing at the Eau Rouge corner and being unable to finish the Q3. Until then, he was the fastest, topping both Verstappen and Hamilton.

2021 Belgian Grand Prix: Storylines
Max Verstappen made the best out of the rain in Belgium and took the pole for the Belgian Grand Prix, surpassing the best time of George Russell, who delivered the performance of his life to secure a front row start. This is the first front row for Williams since 2017.
Verstappen gave Red Bull their first pole position at Spa in 10 years. It’s also his sixth pole position of the season. On the other hand, Hamilton will start from the third place and he has only taken one pole in the last eight races (Hungary). Nobody has won from third on the grid here since Michael Schumacher in 2001.
