Former World No. 1 Iga Swiatek remains on track to defend her French Open title from 2024. The Polish star cruised past Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian to secure a spot in the fourth round and match a record set by tennis icon Chris Evert.
Swiatek made quick work of the opening set, dominating Cristian 6-2 in just 30 minutes. The second set, however, proved to be more challenging. Lasting nearly an hour and a half, it tested the defending champion’s composure, but Swiatek closed it out with a 7-5 victory.
With this win, the five-time Grand Slam champion has equaled Chris Evert’s record for the most main draw wins by a female singles player after their first 40 matches at Roland Garros. Swiatek now boasts 38 wins within those 40 matches and has won her last 24 matches.
Swiatek reflects on her performance
Swiatek has experienced ups and downs in her form recently, struggling to clinch a title since her 2024 French Open triumph. Despite some inconsistency in 2025, her performance against Cristian showed flashes of her best.

“I’m just happy that I was super solid in the last game and didn’t give any free points,” Swiatek said after her victory. “She used her chances and went for it every time I gave her a chance. It was a great match, and I think pretty entertaining. We both played nice; I’m happy I’m through and happy with the performance”.
