Yesterday I didn’t feel great, and I’m really sorry to disappoint you. Thank you so much to everyone supporting me on-site and from home, your support means the world,” he wrote on his social media pages.

Congrats to @carlitosalcarazz and his team. You’re having an incredible season, and I wish you all the best for what’s ahead. Now it’s time to rest a couple of days before getting back to work,” he concluded.

His message was in line with what he expressed during the trophy ceremony on Monday. The World No. 1 was visibly struggling during the five games they managed to play in the final, with Carlos Alcaraz showing his support after his retirement.

This season, Sinner missed three months after winning in Australia, serving a suspension related to his doping case. The Italian returned in Rome, where he reached the final, before losing to Alcaraz in an epic five-set battle at Roland Garros. He got his revenge at Wimbledon, where he triumphed in four sets in the final.

While Sinner recovers from his illness, he is still expected to defend his title in the singles tournament, which begins on August 24. Last season, he defeated Taylor Fritz in the final.

At the time, it was his second Grand Slam crown, after winning the Australian Open earlier in 2024. Now, he is chasing his fifth major. If he successfully defends his US Open crown, he will become the first man since Roger Federer in 2008 to win the tournament back-to-back.
