Speaking to reporters after that session, Herro revealed he’s still a week or two away from returning to NBA action. The guard added that his body is responding well to the increased workload, which is great news for Heat nation.

“I understand that he was 20 last year and he’s 21. But we have bigger expectations. It’s not your normal growth and growing pains of a young player learning how to become a pro. <h2>Spoelstra wants to see more effort from Ware</h2>



Ware, 21, was selected with the 15th overall pick by the Heat in the 2024 NBA Draft. The big man made quite an impression in his rookie year, finishing the season as an established starter in a lineup where his presence as center allowed Adebayo to play with more freedom at power forward, which helped <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tyler-herro">Herro</a> in the scoring and playmaking department.



However, Ware’s second summer league is leaving a lot to be desired. In three games, the second-year player is averaging 12 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 39.4 percent from the field and just 10 percent from three-pointers.



“The talent is there. The professionalism and consistency has to improve, and it is,” Spoelstra added. “Our standards are not going to change and our expectations and how fast we want that to improve for him are not going to change. But he has to get better at it, he has to take ownership of it.



“The other stuff will come along with that,” Spoelstra continued. “That leads into the weight room — your professionalism, your consistency, your approach every single day. He’s getting stronger, he is gaining weight. That’s a big part of his improvement is getting his body physically prepared and ready to handle the rigors of a physical position. Then there’s the nuances of doing things defensively and playing stronger with more force offensively.“

Spoelstra’s comments serve as an important wake-up call for a player who appears to have strong support from the organization. Adebayo made it clear that he has no intention of lobbying for the award through media exposure, even if that’s what it takes to win. “I’ve tried to—I ain’t gonna say beg—but try to showcase and try to put yourself out there, and to me, it’s just too much,” he continued. “If I have to go through media outlets and do all this to get somebody to give me Defensive Player of the Year, I’m cool”.

On Friday night, they dominated the New Orleans Pelicans in a 153–104 blowout, led by a standout performance from Bam Adebayo — who afterward drew high praise and a notable comparison with Chris Bosh from head coach Erik Spoelstra.



Adebayo, who has evolved significantly throughout his career, has seamlessly transitioned to playing more as a power forward this season. He’s expanded his offensive game with a developing three-point shot, and Spoelstra has taken notice.



“It’s always a process when players add a new dimension to their game,” Spoelstra said postgame. “Bam was already working on this two years ago. It took some time to feel comfortable shooting it in a game.” Spoelstra even likened Adebayo’s progression to that of Hall of Famer Chris Bosh, who famously extended his range from midrange sniper to three-point threat during his tenure with the Heat from 2010 to 2016.

“Man, we have to stop scaring ourselves like that,” Adebayo said, via The Miami Herald. “We have to stop doing that. Great win to kick off post-All-Star. Great win for us. We had to do that on the defensive end. We got stops and that’s what mattered in OT”.
