As he faces his 13th <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a> season with the Golden State Warriors, Draymond Green took some time to discuss the league on The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis. During this latest episode, he made waves with strong praise for a young star from the Oklahoma City Thunder, comparing him to Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton.



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/draymond-green">Green</a> voiced his frustrations about ESPN’s recent list of the 25 players under 25 with the most potential in the NBA. “I hate these lists. I hate them with a passion,” the four-time champion said. “For example, Dyson Daniels is having a good season with Atlanta, but two months ago, no one believed in him. Now he’s ranked 23rd… No Cam Thomas?”



However, his most striking comments came when he discussed Haliburton and Thunder forward Jalen Williams. “What justifies Tyrese Haliburton being ranked ahead of Jalen Williams?” Green asked. “Don’t get me wrong—Tyrese is an All-Star and an Olympic gold medalist. But when I look at this, Jalen Williams has more upside.”



Draymond went on to explain why Williams, in his eyes, is one of the top young talents in the league. “Jalen is 6’9″, can pass, shoot, get to the cup. Two weeks ago, he played center, then switched to point guard,” Green said, highlighting the versatile skill set of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/oklahoma-city-thunder">Oklahoma City</a> player.



Green wrapped up his critique by once again questioning the validity of such rankings and their lack of thorough analysis. “When I see stuff like this, I wonder who validates it,” he said. “Yes, Tyrese has done more, but Jalen Williams’ upside is higher than a lot of people on this list. Not just Tyrese-this applies to a lot of names.”

After a shocking run to the Eastern Conference finals last season, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/indiana-pacers">Indiana Pacers </a>have struggled this year. They recorded their four straight loss, and their eighth consecutive loss on the road on Wednesday (Dec. 4th) as the Nets defeated them 99-90. Part of their struggles are being attributed to the poor form of guard Tyrese Haliburton, but coach Rick Carlisle thinks differently.



“Tyrese is doing a terrific job. He’s running the team, he’s keeping his wits about him, he doesn’t have all of his tools around him, but he’s making the best of it and we’ve just gotta stay in the fight,” Carlisle told the press after the defeat, per Sports Illustrated.



<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tyrese-haliburton">Haliburton</a> finished his night with 17 points, three rebounds, eight assists, two steals and two blocks. Currently, he is averaging 17.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.3 steals per contest while shooting 41.5% from the field and 33.3% from the three-point range in his first 23 games.

The guard himself recently addressed the team’s poor form, and his own performance. “I think the product we’re putting on the floor right now as a group is embarrassing,” Haliburton told reporters after their loss to Toronto.

<h2>Haliburton says he doesn’t care about individual performance</h2>



While Haliburton has put up better numbers, he says he doesn’t care about his numbers, but the team’s performance. “I’m just trying to navigate the waters a little bit, figure out the right way to attack it, just be myself while also trying to help us win games,“ he told the press, according to CBS.



“So it feels good to see the ball go in — especially on the road, I’ve struggled on the road this year — but really all that matters right now is winning. And as the leader of this group, I don’t really care about individual anythings right now. We gotta put a better product on the floor.”



With their loss to the Nets, the Pacers dropped to 9-14 in their first 23 games. Following Brooklyn, the Pacers will resume action on Friday evening when they visit Zach LaVine and the Chicago Bulls at the United Center.

However, guard Tyrese Haliburton had one of his best performances, recording 34 points, 13 assists and three steals. After the game, he opened up about his struggles.



“It feels good to win,” <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tyrese-haliburton">Haliburton</a> said. “At the end of the day, I think that’s all that really matters. I think my individual performance and how I view that, I mean, if we’re winning, I really don’t care.” 



“I’ve been frustrated with myself because I feel like the games we’ve been losing, if I was myself, then we would be winning. I care more about us winning than what my numbers are looking like necessarily. But obviously, it feels good to see the ball go in,” he added.



Haliburton also finished with nine step-back 3, the second-highest single-game figure of his career. The win also gave the Pacers back-to-back wins after three straight losses and helped them improve to 8-10.

The Pacers starting point guard is averaging 16.8 points while shooting 39.2 percent from the field, and 32.9 percent from beyond the arc to start the year. But in his last three games he has improved: averaging 24.3 points per game, with shooting splits of 45.5 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from 3-point.


 


<h2>Haliburton has a message for his Pacers’ teammates</h2>



Haliburton also opened up about how his teammates have helped him navigate his difficult start of the season. “What I have to do is keep my joy for the game of basketball,” Haliburton said. “Everybody wants to say, ‘Be happy, have fun.’ Well, that’s hard to do when you’re not playing well or you’re losing. But I think it’s differentiating the difference between happiness and joy.”



“I’ve always had a joy for the game of basketball and a love and appreciation for what I do in this game my whole life. I think I just got caught in getting frustrated with myself and this kinda creeping into, like, job territory and that weighing on me. I think it’s just been big for me to keep that joy and that love and passion for the game of basketball because I genuinely do love what I do. I love this organization. I love my teammates,” he added.

After a shaky start against the Detroit Pistons, where <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tyrese-haliburton">Haliburton</a> only converted 1 of 9 three-point attempts, things went from bad to worse against the Knicks. Haliburton missed all 7 three-pointers and went 0-for-8 from the field.



“We just missed a ton of shots, and it starts with me,” Haliburton said postgame. “I ain’t tripping. The great thing about it is tomorrow we don’t play. I’m going to get in the gym and I’m gonna shoot.”



“We’re all gonna shoot and we’re going to be ready to go on Sunday (against Philadelphia),” he added. “I’m gonna get a lot of shots tomorrow. I’m gonna get a lot of shots on Sunday, and I’m gonna be ready to go on Sunday.”

Haliburton reflected on his performance, adding, “I just was bad. It happens. I have to be better defensively. I felt like I was alright in my shifts, but again, should rebound the ball better, take care of the ball better. Just keep us in a rhythm offensively.”

<h2>Pacers coach Carlisle not worried about Haliburton’s struggles</h2>



Despite the heavy loss and his star player’s poor outing, head coach Rick Carlisle remained unconcerned and praised Haliburton’s resilience despite his struggles.



“I thought Tyrese did a very good job of keeping his emotions in check and just continuing to try to play,” Carlisle said. “Sometimes you have nights like that in the NBA. He’s a fourth- or fifth-year player. I mean, nights like this are gonna happen to the best players in the world. We all gotta take our medicine from this tonight, come back on Sunday, and do better.”



<h2>Pacers’ upcoming schedule</h2>



After opening the season with a win over the Pistons and taking a tough loss at Madison Square Garden, the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/indiana-pacers">Pacers</a> will host the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, October 27. His professional career speaks for itself, but even he has had to earn his place through sacrifice and hard work, as Indiana Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton revealed recently.



Speaking with The Athletic, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/tyrese-haliburton">Haliburton</a> reflected on his time with Team USA at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and how LeBron’s own journey provided valuable perspective. Though Tyrese saw limited playing time in Paris—averaging just 2.7 points in three of Team USA’s six games—he expressed gratitude for the lessons learned, especially from veterans.



“Everybody has had to pay their dues at some point,” Haliburton said. “I had a lot of conversations with (LeBron James), (Dwyane) Wade and (Carmelo Anthony) out there. Those guys all played in the 2004 Olympics and didn’t really get to play a ton or as much as they wanted to. They kind of got a little taste of being benched.”



Reflecting on the experience, Haliburton said, “I’m not bigger than any one group, and I’m not too proud to check my ego at the door for a bigger goal. We won a gold medal, and I get to tell my kids that I was a part of one of the greatest teams ever assembled.”

<h2>LeBron’s 2004 Olympic Struggles</h2>



Like Haliburton, LeBron James represented the United States at an early stage in his career. However, his Olympic debut at the Athens 2004 Games didn’t go as planned, resulting in one of <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/team-usa">Team USA</a>’s most disappointing performances.

Regarding his future, the recent gold medalist from the Paris 2024 Olympics made an interesting statement on The Pat McAfee Show: “I’m not going anywhere,”



Additionally, he dismissed any rumors of a trade to another franchise: “So if they want to play with me they would then have to come here. The Stephon Marbury comment is a little weird… Why does Phoenix need me, they’ve got Tyus Jones, they’ve got a good squad over there… I mean, I understand but I’m good in Indy, they’re good in Phoenix. Tyrese Haliburton was one of the members of Team USA who secured the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Although he didn’t see as much playing time as he might have hoped, he had the privilege of sharing the roster with star players like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.

Regarding his experience of sharing a roster with The King, the Pacers player was emphatic: “Great teammate,” and he also shared his thoughts about the rest of the team: “Everybody was super cool… I was just asking a bunch of questions. I was asking guys about stories from when I was a kid… We would all just have dinner together and just talk hoops for hours… It was a good time.”

However, more than that, losing Tyrese Haliburton may have been a deadly blow for them. At least, that’s how the talented young point guard felt about the outcome of the series.

“It’s been really frustrating,” Haliburton told the media. “It’s been trash, honestly. You work so hard to get somewhere and something happens that’s kind of out of your control. Obviously, that’s frustrating for me.”

The former Sacramento Kings star doubled down on his take by stating that more often than not, the healthier team comes out on top in the playoffs. Still, he gave his opponents some well-deserved credit as well: 



“But what I’ve understood more than anything is that usually in the playoffs, the healthier team wins,” Haliburton added “They’re a hell of a team. Boston’s a great team. But obviously very frustrating for me and how I was playing at the time and how we were playing as a group.”



At the end of the day, context also matters, and even though the final score says 4-0, the series was way closer than most people predicted and gave Rick Carlisle’s team.

They also benefitted from injuries, and chances are they hadn’t been able to beat the Milwaukee Bucks or New York Knicks at full strength, but that’s just the way things go in sports.
