Aaron Boone knows the New York Yankees need all the help they can get on the mound, and getting Marcus Stroman back is crucial. But the wait may be longer than expected following the latest update on his recovery.

“He’s got a lot of treatments on it and stuff, and he just can’t kind of get over that final hump to really allow him to get to that next level on the mound,” Boone told The New York Post, referring to Stroman’s knee. The right-hander has made just three starts so far in 2025.

Boone acknowledged that the team will continue moving forward with the arms they have. “We’ll try and continue to get our arms around it and try and make sure we get that out of there,” he added. As of now, Yankees’s rotation has barely cracked the top 10 in the league this week.

Boone suspected Stroman’s knee was an issue

Boone admitted Stroman’s early struggles this MLB season may have stemmed from the same knee injury, pointing to the April 11 outing against the Giants—an ugly 1-9 loss—as a potential red flag.

Marcus Stroman #0 of the New York Yankees looks on during a workout prior to the 2024 ALDS at Yankee Stadium on October 01, 2024 in the Bronx borough of New York City.

“Certainly his last start, I think he just couldn’t really step on that front side like you need to,” Boone told The Post. “I talk about these guys that are like race cars — a little thing off, it can affect just that last level of command or that last level of extra stuff that you need.”

Yankees rotation pressing on

Even with Stroman sidelined, the Yankees’ rotation is doing its best to keep the team competitive. New York currently sits at 23–17, with Max Fried leading the staff with a sparkling 1.05 ERA, followed by Carlos Rodón’s 3.29 ERA.
