Giancarlo Stanton was seen playing right field for the New York Yankees, a position he hadn’t taken on since 2023. Fans were impressed to see him out there, especially given the injuries he’s dealt with over the years that have physically limited him.
The Yankees needed help in right field, with Aaron Judge somewhat limited for the spot. Stanton, next in line, said he felt good playing out there and was moving relatively well.
“Thought I was picking up the ball well,” Stanton told YES, referring to a couple of fly balls he caught during the game against the Astros. “Had a good exchange on a throw,” he added. “It’s good to be out there.”
Boone approves of Stanton’s outfield work
One of the most important eyes on Stanton during his return to the outfield was Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who after the game said, “I thought he looked comfortable, about what I expected,” expressing satisfaction with the performance of the team’s usual designated hitter.
“I thought he was really efficient, under control,” Boone said of Stanton’s play in right field. “Talking to him, felt like he moved well.” Despite dealing with injuries this season, the plan is to use Stanton not just as a DH going forward.
In the game against the Astros, Stanton was eventually replaced by Dominguez, but before leaving the outfield, he recorded an RBI single that helped the Yankees secure a win and avoid another disappointing home loss that has drawn criticism.
