There’s been some back-and-forth around the NBA over the past couple of weeks. From Andrew Wiggins saying that he wouldn’t get vaccinated because of a bad reaction to Tylenol to Kyrie Irving stating that he’s protected by God, we haven’t been short on controversies as of late.

A handful of NBA players has shared their… particular thoughts on vaccination, research, and personal freedom and say that they won’t get the shot. The league has failed to impose a mandate and that’s not likely to change any time soon.

That’s why sensate superstars of the likes of Michael Jordan have finally decided to step up and speak up. Recently, the greatest player of all time said that he fully supports the league’s protocols and that he believes in vaccination and science.

NBA News: Michael Jordan Advocates For Vaccination, Says He Trusts Science

“Not at all. I am total in unison with the league,” the legendary shooting guard said. “Everybody’s been speaking about the vaccinations & I’m a firm believer in science & I’m going tostick with that. Hopefully everybody abides by whatever the league sets the rules. Once everybody buys in we’re gonna be fine.”

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Says The NBA Should Ban Unvaccinated Players, Calls Out Stars For Not Stepping Up

That should make Kareem Abdul-Jabbar proud. Recently, the Lakers legend put all “dumb jocks” on blast for their remarks on the vaccine, also calling out black celebrities that don’t advocate for a matter of public health:

The NBA should insist that all players and staff are vaccinated or remove them from the team,” Kareem told Rolling Stone. “There is no room for players who are willing to risk the health and lives of their teammates, the staff and the fans simply because they are unable to grasp the seriousness of the situation or do the necessary research.”

“They are failing to live up to the responsibilities that come with celebrity. Athletes are under no obligation to be spokespersons for the government, but this is a matter of public health,” Kareem added. “By not encouraging their people to get the vaccine, they’re contributing to these deaths. I’m also concerned about how this perpetuates the stereotype of dumb jocks who are unable to look at verified scientific evidence and reach a rational conclusion.”

Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar carry strong weight and influence around the league so, hopefully, unvaccinated players will at least consider getting the shot after hearing them speak facts.
