Jerry Jones continues to face questions from reporters about the situation between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys. This was his response when asked if the contract talks would pick up now that they’re back in Arlington after training camp in Oxnard. “I don’t know that necessarily talks will, but, we’ve got a game coming and he’s under contract.”
Jones also answered if there was a deadline to know whether Parsons plans to play against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 or not. “No, not at all. You don’t have deadlines when you’re playing under a contract. All you got to go are on contracts. I have a lot of respect for a contract.”
In recent weeks, Parsons has taken note of how players in his position, like T.J. Watt and Myles Garrett, have already received their big paychecks. Within the Cowboys, he has also seen spectacular contracts awarded to Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Now, it’s his turn.
Is Micah Parsons a free agent?
Micah Parsons is not a free agent. The defensive star is still under contract with the Dallas Cowboys, playing on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal for the 2025 season.
Parsons has publicly requested a trade, expressing frustration with the pace of contract negotiations. However, the Cowboys and Jones have made it clear that he is still under contract and expected to play. If Parsons wants to test the market in 2026, Jerry Jones could use a franchise tag on the player.
Given this scenario, Jerry Jones spoke about what is preventing the Cowboys and Parsons from continuing discussions about the new contract. “Really, nothing. We might or might not talk.”
