Green Bay Packers wants to continue bolstering its roster for the 2025 NFL season, and that means taking steps to make Matt Lafleur‘s team as complete as possible in terms of variants. In that line, the organization decided to re-sign a player who will accompany the offense led by star quarterback Jordan Love.
The desire in Green Bay is to see Love established as a steady starter to lead the Pack to go far in the upcoming season. Gone is an up-and-down 2024 campaign that culminated in a wild-card round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
LaFleur has expressed a desire to see Love take a strong leadership role on the team. For that reason, it is important to retain players who have recently joined the team, but for various reasons have not been able to fit in and will now be given another chance.
The player who signed an extension with the Packers
Jordan Love’s re-signed teammate is none other than tight end John FitzPatrick, who had joined the Packers in October 2024 after a stint with the Atlanta Falcons. Last season, he appeared in nine games under head coach Matt LaFleur, recording one reception for two yards.
FitzPatrick has a long career ahead of him in the league, as he made his NFL debut in 2023 after being selected in the sixth round of the 2022 Draft by the Falcons. After appearing in a handful of games, the 25-year-old tight end has been a part of Atlanta’s practice squad.
Packers coaching staff adjustments
Not only is re-signing FitzPatrick a significant decision for the Packers, but in line with their goal of maintaining a strong roster, Green Bay and head coach Matt LaFleur have also made adjustments to their offensive coaching staff. These include the return of Luke Getsy as senior assistant and the promotion of Sean Mannion to quarterbacks coach.
