The Green Bay Packers will not give up in their effort to ban the Tush Push play, according to general manager Brian Gutekunst. They were the team that brought the issue to the table after the success of the Super Bowl champion Eagles in short-yardage situations.
âI think certainly the medical professionals at the league have high concerns about putting players in positions that could lead to catastrophic injuries. I think this is something that needs to be discussed and we need to be proactive with it rather than be reactive on that. I think we owe it to our players. Itâs not about success. Itâs about safety here.â
Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, has also expressed his concern for player safety, joining other voices like Sean McDermott of the Buffalo Bills. For this reason, the Packersâ proposal could get the green light in the coming months.
Is the Tush Push play banned by NFL?
No. The Tush Push play has not been banned by the NFL. In the latest annual ownersâ meeting, that decision was discussed, but in the end, the conclusion was that the vote could be postponed until May.
For several months, the Tush Push has sparked significant controversy due to the potential injuries players could suffer, especially on defense, because they donât have the same ability to push with the same momentum as the offense.
