After the dominant win over the San Jose Sharks, it was none other than star Alex Ovechkin who revealed, from his perspective, the key to the victory.

After the game, where Spencer Carbery’s team secured a 5-1 victory over the Sharks, Ovechkin spoke with the press and expressed his satisfaction with the performance displayed by his team, which led them to their 44th win of the regular season.

“I think we had a pretty good start, all four lines rolling. Holding the puck, making smart decisions,” Capital star stated via NHL.com. “It’s great. Lots of people are now watching and lots of attention. It’s a great feeling.”

After another win, the Washington Capitals reached a total of 96 points, pushing the Carolina Hurricanes down to second place, and firmly establishing themselves as one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference.

Stat of the day: Ovechkin scored his 887th goal since arriving in the NHL, leaving him just eight goals shy of the record currently held by Wayne Gretzky.

Spencer Carbery, the mastermind behind this team off the ice, acknowledged that his team executed a great game plan against a tough opponent like the Sharks, and revealed, from his perspective, what the key to the victory was.

“Second period, I thought we got pushed a little bit. Started to get a little careless in the second,” Washington coach said via NHL.com. “The first period, we knew in this building, we needed to have a fast start, and that’s exactly what we did.”
