At 40 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo remains a dominant figure in world soccer. He continues to be Portugal‘s top star, on track to play in his sixth World Cup, while also shining for Al Nassr. Now, a rival coach in the Saudi Pro League has offered an eye-opening opinion on CR7.
“Ronaldo is an example at 40 years old. You see some Al Nassr games now, but I am there,” began Jorge Jesus during a talk at the Forum of the National Association of Football Coaches. “He is still a young player, given his performance in the game.”
This praise carries special weight, considering that Jesus is the coach of Al Hilal, one of Al Nassr’s primary rivals in the Saudi Pro League. Currently, Al Hilal sit second in the standings with 57 points, closely followed by Al Nassr with 51.
The coach then spoke about Ronaldo’s future. “Honestly, I don’t know how long he will continue,” Jesus said. “Because he is a 100 percent professional, he takes care of himself like no other player in the world, and that is why he is 40 years old and still going.”
Jorge Jesus uses Ronaldo as an example
At the same conference, Jorge Jesus revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s example of work ethic and professionalism should serve as an inspiration for many young soccer players around the globe. “I often give his example to my players. Ronaldo is an example for all players in the world,” he said.
“What makes an athlete’s career last longer is not just the training process; it is the entire development of the player’s recovery,” the 70-year-old Portuguese coach explained. “And today, the player’s recovery is fundamental.”
Ronaldo will soon face Jorge Jesus
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently with the Portugal national team, preparing for the UEFA Nations League quarterfinal against Denmark. On Thursday, they lost 1-0 in Copenhagen but will have the chance to bounce back next Sunday in Lisbon.
The international break in March has interrupted the Saudi Pro League, which is approaching its final stage. Al Nassr, currently third in the standings, will face a tough challenge upon their return to action: on Friday, April 4, Cristiano Ronaldo’s team will meet Jorge Jesus’ Al Hilal in a match that could be decisive for both teams’ aspirations.
