Lionel Messi guided Inter Miami to a pivotal 2-1 win over Porto on Matchday 2 of Group A at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. With this result, the Herons now top the group alongside Palmeiras, whom they will face in the final matchday.
The game didn’t start well for Inter Miami, as Porto struck first with a penalty goal from Samu in the 7th minute. The Portuguese side dominated the first half and had multiple opportunities to extend their lead but failed to capitalize — chances they would come to regret.
Inter Miami came out firing in the second half, equalizing just one minute in with a goal from Telasco Segovia at the 46th minute. Riding the momentum, the Herons struck again in the 53rd minute, this time through a fantastic free kick by Lionel Messi that secured the comeback victory.
Javier Mascherano’s side now sits level on four points with Palmeiras, setting up a decisive clash on Monday, June 23, for a place in the next round of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
