Despite Novak Djokovic turning 38 years old in 2025, he is playing as if he’s 18. His exceptional physical condition and remarkable play at Wimbledon have generated substantial optimism for the remainder of the tournament, following his impressive performance against Flavio Cobolli in the quarterfinals.

In a challenging matchup against the Italian player, Djokovic exhibited the prowess that has secured his place among tennis greats. His agility and precision on the court, reminiscent of his early career, made it seem as if he was experiencing Wimbledon for the first time.

Although he lost the first set, the Serbian star demonstrated his enduring brilliance by rallying to secure a 3-1 victory in four sets. Nevertheless, Djokovic caused concern among fans in the final game when an ambitious play forced him to stretch beyond his comfort zone.

After the match, Djokovic addressed his health status following the tense moment. “I finished the match (laughs). But that’s what happens when you play on grass. I didn’t fall down so far this year, and it’s surprising it happened now… somehow I managed to persist and finish off the match, but I need to discuss this with my physio and hopefully I’ll be well in two days,” Djokovic remarked.

Djokovic’s thoughts on his opponent

In an exemplary display against Cobolli, the Serbian star acknowledged Cobolli’s remarkable talent on the tennis court. Following their match, Djokovic shared insights on Cobolli’s performance at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

“First, I have to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Flavio for the incredible tournament he played; it was a tremendous battle today. His remarkable performance reminded me of our encounter last year on hard courts. We’ve trained together on different surfaces, but this was our first competitive meeting on grass,” Djokovic stated.

He further remarked: “I noticed his prowess on grass during practice, but there is a significant difference between training and competing officially. He exhibited a high level of play throughout, and his serve was particularly challenging to handle. Flavio is undoubtedly a talented and skillful player.

Djokovic’s milestones after his quarterfinals victory

Not only did Djokovic secure his spot in the Wimbledon semifinals for the 14th time in his illustrious career, but he also achieved and surpassed several significant milestones on Wednesday. Notably, he eclipsed Roger Federer, who had reached 13 Wimbledon semifinals, thus setting a new standard.

With this latest triumph, Djokovic equaled the record held by Chris Evert for the most semifinals appearances in Grand Slam tournaments, boasting 52 in the Open Era. Additionally, he achieved a personal milestone by securing his 102nd victory at Wimbledon, surpassing his previous record of 101 wins at Roland Garros.
