World No. 1 Jannik Sinner announces major career decision ahead of Wimbledon debut

On Tuesday, Jannik Sinner will face fellow Italian Luca Nardi in the first round at Wimbledon. The World No. 1 is chasing his first title since returning from a doping suspension earlier this year, following back-to-back final losses to Carlos Alcaraz. In that context, he made a significant career move.

Sinner has ended his partnership with trainer Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio following his second-round loss at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle to Alexander Bublik, who went on to win the title.

“We made some great results, but I decided to do something different,” Jannik said during his pre-tournament press conference in England, as shared by Tennis.com. “We’ve reached incredible results in the past with them, so obviously huge thanks to them.”

Panichi and Badio were previously part of Novak Djokovic’s team before joining Sinner in September 2024. “There’s not one specific thing. Nothing crazy happened. That’s for sure not,” the World No. 1 explained when asked about the decision. “In this sport things can happen. There is nothing incredible, no, because sometimes a player feels something different, and that’s my case.”

Sinner chasing first Wimbledon title

Despite his impressive results in a relatively short career, Sinner has yet to claim a Wimbledon title. He has won the Australian Open twice and the US Open once, and earlier this year reached his first Roland Garros final.

But Wimbledon remains the Grand Slam where Jannik has had the least success: his best performance came with a semifinal appearance in 2023. In his other outings, he has exited twice in the quarterfinals, once in the first round, and once in the qualification round.

This year, however, Sinner arrives in England with a very different profile. He enters the tournament as the World No. 1 and top seed, carrying momentum from three straight Grand Slam finals—at the 2024 US Open, 2025 Australian Open, and 2025 Roland Garros.

Sinner confident ahead of Wimbledon opener

Jannik Sinner will begin his Wimbledon journey on Tuesday against Luca Nardi in the first round. Reflecting on his mindset heading into the tournament, he said: “I feel good. I feel especially mentally I feel in a very good spot… I’m here to play tennis. I’m here to show that I can play some good tennis also on grass.”
