The Indiana Fever defeated Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings with a dominant 102-83 score, with Caitlin Clark recording a double-double, despite still struggling with her shooting. However, the Fever guard is confident that she will return to shape sooner than later.
“I still probably didn’t shoot it as good as I would have liked, but I feel like it’s coming,” Clark said after Sunday’s win. “Just trying to continue to get my legs under me. And, like I said, pregame, like I feel like I’m a couple shots away from, like, having a really good game,” she warned.
Clark finished with 14 points in the win, converting only four of her 12 shots from the floor. She also connected on just 2-of-7 attempts from three-point range. The game marked her third appearance since returning from a two-week absence caused by a groin injury.
Since coming back, the 23-year-old has gone 13-for-41 overall (31.7%) and 5-for-19 from beyond the arc (26.3%). However, the Fever guard was content with other parts of her performance. “I thought my playmaking was really good,” she told reporters. “There was no reason for me to really shoot that much.”
In that sense, Clark said that she expects the team to get better once she recovers her best form. “When we have five people in double figures, I feel like we’re going to be pretty hard to beat. It would take a lot for a team to beat us,” she said.
Indiana Fever recover from a two-game losing streak
The win was a much-needed bounce-back for the Fever, who had dropped two straight games earlier in the week — including a tough 19-point defeat to Golden State on Wednesday.
With the victory, Indiana moves to an even 10-10 on the season. The team will wrap up its five-game homestand on Sunday with a rematch against the Dallas Wings, ahead of the All-Star weekend.
