The Texas Longhorns are gearing up for a grueling NCAA season, in which nothing will be handed to them as they pursue redemption and silverware. Prepared to face adversity and prevail, Arch Manning has come across his first big challenge after a star teammate sustained an injury and will miss time, as head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed.
The Longhorns will kickstart their college football campaign on August 30 at The Horseshoe, where they’ll take on the Ohio State Buckeyes that ended their previous season with a heartbreaking loss at the gates of the National Championship Game.
Manning, who didn’t play during the season-defining game, and the Longhorns have been chewing on that sour pill, eagerly waiting for their shot at revenge over the Buckeyes. The time for the two schools will come, but they must wait and prepare for a pivotal campaign in The Forty Acres.
However, the obstacles can appear at any given moment for the University of Texas in Austin. Manning learned that recently, as Sarkisian confirmed a key injury in the WR room.

Ryan Wingo #5 of the Texas Longhorns runs after a reception in the first half against the Texas A&M Aggies at Kyle Field on November 30, 2024 in College Station, Texas.
Longhorns star Ryan Wingo sustained a hamstring injury and will be out for the remainder of spring training, according to InsideTexas on X. Though a sensible loss, the sophomore wideout should be back during the summer camp.

Sarkisian shares excitement about Manning’s first starting season
Coming into college football as one of the biggest household names, Arch Manning patiently waited for his opportunities, which were scarce behind Quinn Ewers. However, the five-star QB’s trust and respect for Texas never wavered. Finally, his time has come and the starting job in Austin is his.
Ahead of an NCAA season filled with sky-high expectations for the redshirt sophomore quarterback, Sarkisian voiced a very powerful statement about Manning during a conversation with former Longhorns star Colt McCoy on Clean Pocket.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian of the Texas Longhorns reacts as he arrives prior to a game against the Georgia Bulldogs at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on October 19, 2024 in Austin, Texas.
“I’m excited for him,” Sarkisian said about Manning during the episode. “He’s been patient. How many people have come after him from other schools to get him to transfer? He’s stayed the course and stayed true to his word, so we’re pumped about him.”

Years in the making
Manning kept his word—not just since enrolling at Texas, but even long before that. A viral old video featuring Arch and his brother, Heid, has made waves across the Internet and social media. In it, a young Arch Manning, wearing a burnt-orange t-shirt, confidently confessed: “I want to go to Texas.” There’s a reason the saying goes: kids don’t lie.
