The New York Yankees generated significant buzz with their recent roster additions as they prepare for the challenges remaining this season. With fans already scrutinizing player performances, the front office made a surprising move just one day after the trade deadline by waiving Marcus Stroman.

Stroman, one of the few players struggling this season, has now been made available for any franchise, as the Yankees have agreed to cover the remaining $6 million of his $37 million contract that was set to expire at the end of September.

For Stroman, this move opens the door to continue his Major League Baseball career with another team. Fans were caught off guard by the decision, yet the reaction was largely neutral. Stroman bid farewell to the fan base with a single-word post.

“Adios,” Stroman wrote in an Instagram story, meaning “goodbye” in Spanish. The terse message might reflect his feelings about the situation, given that his exit came unexpectedly just after the trade deadline while he was still part of the team.

“Baseball always brings these kinds of surprises, but as a team, we need to focus on winning. I’m excited about the new additions. They bring a lot of talent and great character both on and off the field. Everyone is excited, and Tampa was a good team to start with,” Stroman stated.

Stroman’s performance with the Yankees

After joining the Yankees last season, Stroman had a strong first year, appearing in 30 games and allowing 167 hits and 81 runs in 2024. He gave up just 19 home runs while accruing 113 strikeouts, showing relentless effort toward achieving his goals.

However, 2025 did not prove as fruitful for Stroman. In his second year with the Yankees, he played in 9 games, allowing 44 hits and 27 runs, alongside 6 home runs and registering 26 strikeouts. This marked a challenging end to his tenure with the team.
