Giancarlo Stanton is one of the main topics for the New York Yankees as the 2025 MLB season approaches. As the designated hitter who has consistently contributed to the team’s success, the unfortunate news about his injury and absence could complicate things before the season even begins.
According to information revealed by the Yankees, Stanton remains in New York attending to personal matters. Regarding his injury, it was clarified that he received PRP injections in both elbows, where he is suffering from tennis elbow, and as a result, he will start the season on the injured list.
For those who don’t know, almost a week ago it was reported that Stanton would see the Yankees’ doctor to address his elbow problem. It was revealed at that time that surgery would be the last resort; they would focus on non-invasive therapy first.
This will be the first time in Stanton’s career that he will not be available for an opening day. It’s important to remember that he has suffered multiple injuries and undergone some surgeries during his years in MLB, but he was always available to play the first game of the season.

Why Could Stanton’s Absence Be a Dagger to the Yankees’ Heart?
He is one of those players who, with over 400 plate appearances, can contribute significant runs to win games. Last season, he had 459 plate appearances, his highest number since the 579 he had in 2021 and the third-highest since the 705 in 2018. Last year, he contributed 49 runs and 97 hits.

However, it’s worth noting that this wouldn’t be the first time Stanton has been sidelined by an injury. Between 2019 and 2020, he was available for only 41 games, which affected the team, but he managed to return for the postseason and set a couple of personal records in the playoffs with 7 runs and 8 hits.
LeMahieu Also Injured
Another important loss for the Yankees before the start of the season is DJ LeMahieu. His first spring game was reported as injured; he suffered a calf injury. Aaron Boone has not confirmed anything significant but said, ‘We’ll see what we have … it’s at least a little concerning.’
