Suzyn Waldman knows the New York Yankees better than most—not just because she’s been the team’s color commentator since 2005, but because she’s witnessed firsthand the highs and lows the franchise has gone through over the years. Like many fans, she’s endured the frustrations of watching the organization fall short time and again.
With the Yankees sitting at 54-44, trailing the Toronto Blue Jays (57-41) for second place in the AL East, and coming off a loss in the first game of the second half of the season, criticism surrounding the team has only continued to grow louder.
Waldman has experienced plenty of difficult moments in the booth, including watching the Yankees lose the final game of the 2024 MLB World Series to the Dodgers. Her latest comments draw a direct line between that heartbreak and what’s happening now—because to her, it all feels far too familiar.
What exactly did Waldman say about the Yankees?
“I feel like we’re in the Twilight Zone,” she said, referring to how the team continues to struggle in similar ways. “We were here two years ago. It’s the same games going on. Different players, but the same games.”

Waldman pointed out that while there are many different faces on the roster compared to the past, the issues feel identical. Notably, she made no mention of the manager—Aaron Boone—who remains in charge. But her comments sparked a wave of reaction on social media.
“Suzyn always calls out the Yankees for being lackadaisical,” one fan wrote on X. “Say what you want about her but she asks Boone the hard questions, she doesn’t sugar coat the team.”
Another added, “It’s been going on for at least five years. Different players and same manager. Not hard to figure out. Obviously she works for the team so she can’t say it, but she knows Boone is a problem.”
