Jason Kidd gave it everything to push the Dallas Mavericks into the NBA playoffs this season. But despite his efforts—and a roster hit hard by injuries late in the regular season—the team ultimately fell short. The shocking mid-season trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers only compounded the challenge, leaving Kidd without the star power needed to secure a postseason berth.

In the aftermath of the disappointment without Doncic on the roster, with criticism also directed at Mavericks GM Nico Harrison, Kidd has taken an unexpected step off the court. With the NBA offseason stretching ahead, the head coach is embarking on a surprising new venture, this time, in a completely different sport.

This week, Everton Football Club announced that Kidd has joined the club’s ownership group, marking a bold move into the Premier League landscape. The former NBA All-Star is now officially part of Roundhouse Capital Holdings, an investment vehicle within The Friedkin Group, which has taken increasing ownership in the historic English club.
