It’s not common to see NBA players calling out their current or former teammates out in the open. There are some standards and unwritten rules that make them keep what happens in the locker room to their own. Then again, JR Smith is no ordinary player, and we’re not living in ordinary times.

JR Smith has a reputation for keeping it real, so he was a perfect guest for ‘All Things Covered’ Podcast by Patrick Patterson and BMac. There, he didn’t disappoint and was as blunt as honest as he could over a delicate subject.

The thing is that, when asked about the teammate he didn’t like, the 16-year veteran didn’t hesitate to let everybody know that, throughout his entire career, the one guy he could never stand was Sam Dekkerdue to his pro-Trump antics.

JR Smith Calls Out Sam Dekker For Pro-Trump Stance

“Throughout my whole career, it’s only one teammate I really don’t like. And he know that. And everybody else, I’m just cool with. This dude Sam Dekker, dog. I can’t – this dude. He did some bulls— on the bus one day, talking some Trump s—, and I just wasn’t having it,” Smith said.

“For what the question he asked, it’s a thought pattern. You’re taught that. It’s not like – it’s the hate you give. And I feel like it’s something you’re taught. It’s not – the privilege he has was taught to him, and he took heed of it and run with it even further than somebody who was not – who was oblivious to what they have and what the life they lived,” JR added.

“Because some people just go through their life – not not necessarily knowing, but not aware and privy to somebody else’s circumstances. He’s a person who’s just very aware of somebody else’s circumstances and want to keep them there, as opposed to try to help him elevate up. And I don’t respect anything about that,he concluded.

Smith, like most NBA players, has been quite outspoken regarding how much he dislikes the POTUS, so this doesn’t come as a surprise. Notably, Dekker hasn’t even been around the league for a while and he’s unlikely to ever make a comeback.

What happened on that bus is something that we may not ever truly find out. Perhaps, Sam Dekker will one day give his take on the incident and we’ll know for sure whatrubbed Smith the wrong way.
