The Dallas Mavericks have been dealt a major blow this week with the confirmation of Kyrie Irving‘s injury. The 32-year-old guard suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Monday’s game against the Sacramento Kings and will be out for an extended period. In light of this, he took to social media to communicate with his supporters.
“Just wanted to let you guys know I’m OK,” Irving assured fans during an Instagram Live session on Tuesday afternoon. “I’m not gonna lie to you guys, yeah, this one stinks for sure… I’m just trying to explain to you guys the human emotions that I’m going through right now. It’s tough.”
Kyrie quickly shifted his tone to a more hopeful message about the future. “I will be back, and I will be better. It’s gonna take some time,” he said. “I’m going to give myself some grace, like I’ve been extending grace to everybody else. I’m going to take some time to be selfish and recover, get better, get healthy.”
Reflecting on his current situation, the 32-year-old guard added, “I will be OK… I got a great support system around me. I have incredible family members and friends, and I know I’m supported, not just here in America, but internationally.”

The Mavericks star also took the opportunity to reflect on how injuries are part of the business and shared a message for young athletes. “Shout out to all the young ones out there aspiring to be a professional athlete,” he said. “Learning how to deal with adversity, pain, and suffering is just as important as learning how to deal with success and happiness.”
How long will Irving be off the court?
A torn anterior cruciate ligament is one of the most serious injuries an athlete can endure, typically requiring surgery followed by a lengthy recovery process before returning to full activity.
Although the Dallas Mavericks have not disclosed any specifics regarding the timeline for Kyrie Irving’s return, it is clear that he will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 NBA season. By the start of the 2025-26 campaign in October, he is expected to be in the final stages of his recovery.
