As speculation continues around a possible LeBron James trade, the Los Angeles Lakers remain active during free agency. The franchise is looking to build a competitive roster around Luka Doncic and James, and according to reports, they are keeping a close watch on the status of a two-time NBA All-Star center.
Following their early playoff exit against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Lakers’ lack of interior presence became evident after trading Anthony Davis to make room for Doncic’s arrival.
In response, Los Angeles signed Deandre Ayton from the Portland Trail Blazers and brought back Jaxson Hayes via free agency. However, the front office is reportedly exploring additional options to strengthen the position.
According to Anthony Irwin of ClutchPoints, the Lakers have been monitoring the situation involving Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic. “This does leave a few interesting free agents still, not even including eventual buyout candidates like Chicago’s Nikola Vucevic,” Irwin wrote. “As they did with Smart, the Lakers are closely monitoring that situation”.

Vucevic, who has spent four NBA seasons with the Bulls after a midseason stint with the Orlando Magic, is coming off one of his most efficient campaigns in Chicago. He averaged 18.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 73 games (72 starts) while shooting 53 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from three-point range.

Should Vucevic reach a buyout agreement with the Bulls, the Lakers would reportedly be interested in adding him, as he could provide much-needed depth at center alongside Ayton. However, reports suggest the veteran big man is unlikely to be moved before next season’s trade deadline, when his expiring contract could carry more value.
Irwin also noted that Robert Williams III’s name has surfaced in trade discussions, though league sources say the 27-year-old center remains sidelined with injuries — a history that may keep the Lakers from pursuing him.
