The latest wave of NBA free agency moves has dominated headlines, but several big-name players remain unsigned and a few teams have yet to make significant roster changes. According to new reports, the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Minnesota Timberwolves are now all reportedly in pursuit of a high-profile target: Bradley Beal, a former teammate of Kevin Durant with the Phoenix Suns.

Jake Fischer reports that all four franchises are monitoring Beal’s situation closely. ā€œSome confirmed suitors for Beal include the LA Clippers — fresh off agreeing to trade Norman Powell to Miami in a three-team deal that will bring back Utah’s John Collins — as well as the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee, and Minnesota,ā€ Fischer noted.

ā€œMiami was widely anticipated to be in that mix, but the Heat’s agreed-to acquisition of Powell would appear to rule them out of the Beal chase,ā€ Fischer continued. ā€œThat would likewise appear to boost the Clippers’ chances of convincing Beal to join Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, and company by stepping into a clear backcourt void created by Powell’s departure.ā€

Beal is coming off a challenging season with the Suns, a team that failed to qualify for both the NBA Playoffs and the Play-In Tournament. Amid concerns over his fit with the starting unit, Beal was moved to a bench role. Despite those team struggles, the veteran guard still posted respectable individual numbers.

He averaged 17.0 points per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 38.6% from three-point range during the 2024–25 season. Though he is no longer attached to a contract north of $50 million, Beal could be signed for something closer to the $5.3 million mid-level exception — the exact figure the Clippers currently have available — which makes his value all the more appealing.

The Clippers currently have two open roster spots and the non-taxpayer mid-level exception at their disposal. With a potential starting role now available following Powell’s exit, the Clippers could be among the frontrunners to land Beal. However, several other variables across the league could still shape the final outcome.

Milwaukee remains in limbo amid ongoing questions surrounding Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, while the Lakers have yet to make a major splash but recently addressed their frontcourt by acquiring Deandre Ayton. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have remained quiet during free agency but could enter the conversation at any moment.
