One of the most talked-about storylines in the NFL in recent days undoubtedly involves the Washington Commanders and one of their top offensive stars, Terry McLaurin. The situation between both sides remains far from resolved, leaving head coach Dan Quinn evaluating the immediate future of the franchise.

After seeing little progress in contract extension talks at the numbers he was seeking, McLaurin dropped a bombshell requesting a trade — a move that may have impacted the team’s focus during its preparation phase.

In a recent conversation with the media, the head coach of one of the NFC’s most promising teams addressed the situation and how it could potentially affect the team’s preparation ahead of the new season.

“Players today are more aware of contracts than they used to be,” he said, via John Keim of ESPN.com. “They recognize that’s the business part. For the team, we’re just rocking. For Terry, the trade request, that’s part of normal business that’s happening around the NFL. We understand it. This group is tight and they’re focused on what they have to do.

Keeping his distance from the dispute

In many cases, when there are disputes between players and franchises regarding contract renewals or financial matters, coaches choose to get involved, while in many others, their position is to remain on the sidelines.

In this case, Quinn stated that he leaves the financial discussions to General Manager Adam Peters while trying “to make sure to support the player as best I can.”

While the situation with McLaurin remains unresolved, a potential trade to another franchise would deal a significant blow to Jayden Daniels’ offense — one that’s aiming to be among the league’s best this season.

Early challenges await Dan Quinn’s squad

With the primary goal of at least matching the success of last NFL season, these will be the first challenges the Commanders must face heading into the upcoming campaign:
